1. The most common coating type for neodymium magnets is nickel

These magnets are coated with a thick layer of nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) during electroplating. Nickel is a natural antioxidant. Therefore, it is commonly used in neodymium magnet coatings as well as electroplating applications. The nickel coating provides the magnet with a protective layer against oxidation. The surface is stainless steel color, the oxidation resistance effect is good, the appearance of gloss is good, the internal performance is relatively stable, the service life is long, which can pass a 24-72 hour salt spray test.


2. Gold-plated neodymium magnets

Gold offers a higher level of antioxidant protection than copper. It doesn't rust, it doesn't corrode. Gold is actually considered one of the least active metals on the periodic table. But gold is expensive, the neodymium magnets with a gold coating usually cost more than those with a replacement coating.

3. Galvanized strong magnet

Zinc is usually used as a single layer coating. It has excellent properties as a corrosion resistant coating and is very affordable. Since the zinc begins to oxidize, it forms a layer of zinc oxide that helps protect the magnet. The surface appearance and anti-oxidation requirements are not particularly high, the pursuit of low cost can choose galvanized.

4. Epoxy coating

The epoxy coating, mostly black, is covered by three coats(Ni-Cu-Ni-Epoxy ). It provides superior performance in outdoor applications where corrosion resistance is required. This coating is softer than other coatings and prone to scratching, which can expose the underlying layer and cause the magnet to corrode. Epoxy coatings are usually available in black and white.
